Live-In Housekeepers: Keys To An Easier Life

December 31st, 2009

Live-in housekeepers are sprouting in many homes. This is because more and more people are coming to realize the convenience of having a full time help at home. Besides that, there are many other reasons why it becomes a practical need to employ the services of live-in housekeepers.

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford the services of live-in housekeepers. In the United States, it is very expensive to maintain a live-in housekeeper. Nonetheless, for those who are able to manage the financial aspect of hiring one, there is nothing better than to have a hired help at home.

In the event that you would also like to experience what it’s like to have housekeepers living in your home, it is necessary that you conduct a thorough interview and background check. Certainly, you would not want to let just anybody living in your house twenty fours a day; thus, you should be able to find out if you can trust your housekeeper with your life.

As a guide, you should ask the potential candidates basic background information. Ask them how long have they been in the housekeeping business; the employers they have worked with, and the reasons why they have left their employers (assuming, of course, that they are previously employed). You should also let them know the amount you intend to pay them with, and your expectations of them. It is always better to lay things out in black and white to prevent problems in the future.

You should also know how your applicants feel when it comes to doing household chores. Ask them how comfortable are they cleaning, cooking, taking care of the children, and keeping the house in order. If they are honest in their answers, they should be able to look at you straight in the eye.

It may also be a good thing to ask them to fill out a sort of application form, too, requiring them to state their full name, address, contact number, social security number, reference names and phone number. You should also check the validity of their work visa.

Performing a background check on your choice of live-in housekeepers can prove to be very difficult. There are certain agencies, though, that can help you with this, but you will need to shell out some money to pay for their services. Nonetheless, this will leave you stress-free in the end.

These guide questions serve to help you spot good live-in housekeepers for your home. It is essential that you employ only the best ones, considering that you will be entrusting the management of your home to them.

Filipino Maids: Philippines’ Pride

December 29th, 2009

Whenever you go to Hong Kong, try to visit Statue Square. The place does not only offer a relaxing scenery, it also serves as a place where hundreds of Filipino maids flock there to meet, to chat, and to share their lives during their day offs.

In certain countries abroad, such as in England, only the wealthy and the powerful can afford the services of a female Filipino servant, so having one at home only indicates that that family belongs to the upper class. The rich in Italy have also taken notice of the good qualities of a Filipino servant.

Working as Filipino helpers should not be looked upon with disdain and embarrassment. After all, while the job entails many laborious and dirty work, Filipino maidservants are excelling in this kind of business abroad. In fact, they are even admired by their foreign employers because of the quality of service that they render coupled with their honesty, loyalty and sincere dedication to duty.

Indeed, Filipino servants are able to do things maids from other countries can not afford to do. For example, only a maid from the Philippines can take on the job of cleaning the toilet bowls without complaining.

Filipino helpers, whether a college graduate or not, are observed to be naturally intelligent and resourceful. They can pick up instructions without further questions. They, too, work hard without supervision. The word workaholic is indeed, due to a Filipino. She’ll simply work and work and will only stop if said so by her boss. At times, they can also be feisty. They would even argue with their employer about a certain problem. They also know how to find a way and get out from every trial.

One advantage that Filipino servants abroad possess is her fluency in English, thanks to the American colonizers. Compared to Mexicans, Chinese and other nationalities, Filipinos have deeper vocabulary in English and can comprehend better with their employers.

In some countries, to have a Filipino servant is a status symbol. In England, the aristocracy, celebrities, and millionaires hire Filipino helpers to their household. Filipino helpers are also among the higher paid servants since they impress their boss with their quality service. Filipino helpers in Italy are also prized for their good work. They even tell their employers how much salary they want to receive. In Greece, a household is considered middle class if it hires Albanian servants; while a household with a Filipino servant is hailed as rich.

Wherever they are, Filipino maids working abroad give dignity to their mother country, the Philippines. However, they should not be tagged merely as servants who do dirty jobs. Instead, they should be regarded with much admiration and appreciation for their extreme dedication, loyalty, and sincerity, as well as for all the sacrifices they have to endure while working miles away from home.

Where Are You On The Subject Of Social Work Agencies

December 3rd, 2009

When I went to law school the politically conservative students called me the social worker because of my relative conservative beliefs. They would mutter from the back of the class when I was discussing a legal case I thought would be better decided by society rather than the strict rule of law that I should become a lawyer for social work agencies.

I am not a liberal. I was not one in law school and I am not one now. But from my studies I can see how those who promote justice based on societal and environmental factors think and believe. I studied sociology as an undergrad and it was my minor to my major of political science.

If you want to know what conservatives think of when they think of social workers, go back to some of the films of the fifty’s and sixties. Remember the movie with Marlon Brando who rides around on his motorcycle disrupting the normal way of life of each town he passes through. There is always a young attractive woman who knows the rebel is simply misunderstood by the rest of society. In fact society is why he is a rebel. Society has made him this way. And she is going to help him overcome all the wrong and injustice society has done to the rebel.

People with conservative views towards politics and society argue that it is not society who is fault if someone is not living a proper life. Conservatives argue that everyone has responsibility for their own actions. If you break the law, if you end up out of work, if you do not have an education, then it is your fault not society’s fault.

But the social worker, or at least those with degrees in sociology will say that a person who is raised for instance in the ghetto in a one parent family living in a neighborhood filled with illegal activity like illegal drug dealing, illegal gambling, and prostitution has many disadvantages compared to a person raised in an upper class family with two parents living in a nice home on a street unfamiliar to crime.

I worked the ghetto as a sales representative. I worked the rich side of town as a sales representative. Guess where I would choose to grow up or raise a family. Listen no matter how driven a child is, no matter how smart a child is, growing up in the ghetto is not easy compared to growing up in an upper class area with two parents.

This is not to say that those who decide to forget school and join the ranks of the drug dealers or other law breakers do not have personal responsibility for their acts, they do. But social workers do not need conservatives calling them bleeding heart liberals.

No there are many young people living in a jungle of crime, destruction, and disillusion who want to get out. Some do not need to hear about how their environment is responsible for the continuing social problems passed down from one generation to the next. No they simply need help to get themselves out of the ghetto. And that is where social work agencies can help.

Earn a Living with the Best Jobs for Stay at Home Moms

December 2nd, 2009

Having a two income family these days seems to be the norm. Whether mom is out in the general workforce or at home making some extra money, that second income is now vital to the success of the finances of the family. If mom is home for the first time, she is probably wondering what the best jobs for stay at home moms are.

There are a lot of things to consider when trying to be a work at home mom. How much money do you need to make? How many hours can be committed to the job each day? How many days a week will mom be able to work? Based on these answers, she can start looking at the many different opportunities that are available in the way of jobs for stay at home moms.

One of the most popular jobs for stay at home moms is to be some type of freelance writer. There are so many different avenues in this niche that the possibilities are literally endless. From working for an article writing service to writing articles for sites like Helium.com, Associated Content and Examiner that pay on a per click basis, the opportunities are plentiful.

Another great field that can be explored as a work from home position is data entry. These positions will generally pay well over $10 an hour, but there is usually a time commitment involved. While there may not be set hours, companies will want to know that somehow you are able to dedicate 20 or so hours to them every week.

Something else that mom can do is something that she does every day, babysitting! This may require a little research as certain areas have limits on how many kids can be in a home, but it is definitely something that is worth looking into. If successful, this can be a viable business long after your child grows up.

Because of the fact that so many other parents are forced to put mom to work, many of your friends and neighbors will be looking for some type of day care for their children. Knowing that the kids will be staying with a trusted neighbor is often enough to persuade them away from using another day care company. This can literally take off over night.

While these are only a few of the opportunities that are available for a work at home mom, it gives a general idea of the many different types of work that are possible. Remember, just because mom is at home does not mean that she cannot be an entrepreneur in her own right. With a little research and guidance, her business can take off in no time at all.

Filipino Maids HK – Why Filipino Maids Prefer Western Employers

November 17th, 2009

A huge number of filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong usually call our employment agency and ask if we have Western employers available. What is it that filipino domestic helpers prefer Western employers instead of Chinese employers ?

As an employment agency catering to both local and international market, we often receive inquiries from Western employers who are in need of domestic help from time to time as a result of our internet marketing using Google Adwords campaign.

Based on my interviews with some of those Filipino maids, they prefer Western employers compared with Chinese employers in Hong Kong because they tend to be more understanding and generous with compensation.

There are four major areas where Western employers show an edge over the Chinese employers in terms of their treatment of Filipina domestic helpers. They are atmosphere of work environment, consideration, socio-psychological distance and personal space. This study has been conducted by Chinese University of Hong Kong on how maids in Hong Kong are treated by their employers.

The data were based on in-depth and structured interviews of Filipino helpers who have served both types of employers. A few Western and Chinese employers were also interviewed.

The study shows that Western employers tend to provide their Filipino maids with easier and more comfortable work environment compared with the Chinese employers. They are more considerate, and are more likely to treat their maids equally and to allow them more personal space, thus, giving their helpers more satisfaction in working for them.

Western employers are more homogeneous in terms of variations in treatment of filipino domestic helpers and also tend to concentrate on the positive side while Chinese employers are more diversified. As a summary, filipino domestic helpers are more likely to know what Western employers are expecting of them and how they would be treated versus the Chinese employers where treatment usually vary from one employer to the other.

Opting For Bad Credit Refinance Is Like Walking On Thin Ice

October 31st, 2009

The question is whether one is able to get the bad credit refinance or not. It is certainly possible and there are various instances of people getting their properties refinanced. The credit score is a significant feature in securing credit. In spite of poor credit ratings, it is possible to get the property refinanced.

The bad credit situation is a result of various factors. One of them is delayed payment of instalments to financial institutions or the lenders. The continuous delay has an effect on your credit score. This lacuna points out to your inability to make regular instalments to the lenders due to certain reasons.

This may seem to you as the only escape from facing the wrath and sometimes harassment of the lenders. The indelible mark of a defaulter is bound to linger and tease you at least for a time in your credit reports which can make or mar your luck in so far as the lenders are concerned. At this stage your credit rating has ebbed to it’s lowest ever level.

The last resort one can take is to file for bankruptcy to achieve freedom from lenders. This reflects in your credit reports for a considerable period of time. This is enough for the lenders to surmise that your account is not a reliable one and that you are not a suitable candidate for financing. Your credit score reaches the lowest level.

Due to the extended period of loan under this scheme, the borrower gets the advantage of lower monthly instalments spread over a longer period. This helps him to pay his dues regularly without much strain and consequently regain his good credit rating, after which he will be eligible for lower interest too.

The understanding is that there is a definite way to get bad credit refinance irrespective of the poor credit score. This is also a way out for the people who are interested to get their debts merged. You can get the house refinanced to obtain requisite funds to take care of other imminent duties and responsibilities like paying for the education fee of your wards overdue energy bills for energy or for repairing your house, and many more other applications.

The loan is allowed to you on high interest rates against the collateral security of your house and if by any chance, you are not able to meet up the instalments or pay the entire loan amount that you have taken from lenders, you just have to forego your house.

In the final analysis, while the advantage of the Bad Credit Refinance is that it can help you to realize the purchase of your Dream Home and the disadvantage is the higher rate of interest for a specified period, the saving grace is that during the period of higher interest and lower monthly instalments, you will regain the status of a Good credit borrower, attracting the lower rate of interest.

Personal Branding for Job Interviews

October 29th, 2009

More and more interview articles and career coaches will tell you that in order to do well in an interview – and to ultimately get the job offer – you must “Be Prepared.”

Do you know how to prepare for your interview?

“What does preparing for an interview look like?”

“What if I’m not REALLY qualified or able to do this job?” “How do I know what they are going to ask?” “How can I make them I hire me?”

These are common questions and concerns – but where do you find the answers?

We are in a Tough Job Market

You are more than aware that you are in a tough job market and that you will have to do something to make yourself stand out from the rest of the crowd. You realize that you are competing against the odds.

The question is, “When there are so many other candidates looking at the same job, how can you make yourself stand?

The answer is: “BRAND YOURSELF.”

What is Branding Yourself?

This is what companies do when they want to sell something – they use whatever methods necessary to tell the customers who they are, what they do and how they do it – they “brand” the product.

I’m not a product? How do I brand myself?

Begin to think of yourself as a product. What this means is you have to discover What Makes You Unique – and to begin thinking of yourself like a product. This is one of the main secrets of successful preparation.

Effective branding used in the interview is the same as in business. It is telling the customer (in this case the interviewer) who you are; what you can do and have done in the past (your unique qualities); and why they should buy (hire you).

Call For An Interview

Let’s assume that you have an outstanding resume and that you make it to the top of the stack of resumes of people to be called for an interview.

First of all -Congratulations on getting this far.

The problem is that You – and maybe nine or ten other equally qualified people for the position will receive that same call.

Are you the best? You had better be prepared to prove that you are the best by letting the interviewer know what makes you unique and what you can do for them – you you will bring to the position. Because companies have so many candidates to choose from, they are interviewing more people so that they can select the “best.”

It is essential that you be ready to sell yourself when you are lucky enough to be invited to an interview. You need to let the interviewer know what makes you unique, what makes you a “remember-able” person? What added value you can bring to the position?

In other words, why YOU are the best person for the job?

Your goal is to leave behind an impression of you and your “brand.”

Preparation

By doing some simple basic preparation, you can determine your uniqueness, your “brand” and where you should focus your attention.

This process is to identify the points you have to offer – the combination that makes you Unique.

This will be a combination of your education, experience and any special training or certifications you may have, as well as your area of expertise, your strengths, and your personal traits.

You write your personal statement by listing all these qualities and then rewriting to make them into a concise statement ready to present to the employer when any of the standard questions come up.

“What makes you unique?” “Tell me about yourself.” “What can you bring to this position that the other candidates can or can’t?” “What are you strengths?” “Tell me something about you that will make me remember you after you leave the interview.”

You can develop the answers to these questions by using “5 points” to use during the interview. If you use your five fingers to keep focused you can jog your memory if you forget what you were going to say due to being nervous.

Point #1

Your education and years of experience. (More experienced persons will talk mainly about experience and not education.

Point #2

Your area of expertise – or what you know a lot about. (For less experienced people you will have to rely on classes or courses you’ve taken).

Point #3

Your strength – this is usually a trait that you can use in any job. In other words, a general trait. (Communication, Relating to Others, Analytical Problem Solving, Determination, Adaptability).

Point #4

Your work ethic or work style (This is what coworkers would say to describe you).

Point #5

Something interesting about you (A hobby, somewhere that you volunteer to do, a sport or arts interest. If you can think of something that relates to the job you are applying for that would be a plus).

By summarizing what you have to offer in a methodical way you will be less apt to wander or forget what you intended to say.

You can search for online tools to help you create your personal interview brand or you can write out your job winning brand by following the examples above.

Whatever method you use – you need to be prepared. It will make a difference in the way that you present yourself and in your being able to talk openly – without being modest about what you have to offer. You will be able to tell the interviewer why they should hire YOU – and what makes you unique.

In fact, preparation will help you in ALL your interactions – social, business, and your day-to-day life. The more you know yourself and are will to talk openly about yourself the more comfortable you will be in talking about yourself – to anybody.

Interview Tips-Finding the Right Approach to a Successful Interview

October 28th, 2009

One of the most irritating and frustrating things to deal with when getting a new job is going through the interview. It’s almost as if your prospective employer is trying to make you nervous with interrogation and stares that are going right through you. However, if you follow a few simple guidelines, you can have a successful and stress-free result.

First, you must understand that the questions that are being asked have meaning to the employer. The way you answer them will give them an insight into what type of employee you will be. The questions are well thought out and they are looking for particular answers to each of them.

If you want to truly be successful, you need to provide complete answers, and use good grammar throughout the interviews entirety. Anyone that cannot communicate well, the employer will normally pass right by them when the hiring process takes place. If you have to continually repeat yourself because they don’t understand, it’s probably not a good sign either.

You should also keep your answers positive at all times. Unless of course a negative one is required, but it’s usually not the case. For instance, the employer will ask you why you left your last job. If you tell him/her you hated your boss and the hours were horrible, that is the fast track to the end of the line and a new interview with a different company.

Another good tip for the interview process is to be honest. If they ask about your previous attendance history and if you had been disciplined for attendance at your previous job, be honest. Your answers can be phrased in a way that will not look negative.

If you missed a lot of work due to an illness and you were disciplined (written warning, final written warning, etc.) you can tell a prospective employer this in a way that does not look so bad on you. Tell them that you did develop a serious medical condition that required you to be out of work for a short amount of time. This sounds better than “I called off a lot and got written up”.

Then of course you have to keep close eye out for the employers that ask questions about policies at your last job. Did you agree with them? What did you do about it if you didn’t agree? This is definitely not the time or the place to get deep into this subject. The easiest step to take is simply telling them you didn’t agree with one or two of them, but ended up adhering to them anyways. You might even go as far as telling them you tried to gain an understanding over it as well.

Yes, that will get you brownie points, but the main goal is present yourself in a positive light for all to see. Make sure you look them in the eye and dress to impress. Be sure your breath smells fresh, your hair looks nice (unless you don’t have any, then it should be shaved accordingly), and you’re ready for anything that is thrown out you. In the end it will make your interview go much smoother, and give you the confidence needed to be successful and earn their respect. Hopefully in the end you will get a new job as well.
